No matter where you are in your faith walk, friend, there are so many Bible verses about getting back on track with God. I’ve carefully chosen 7 of the most powerful verses to help you begin drawing nearer to the Living God.

Each verse is paired with a question to help you reflect on your current state so you can begin moving forward in a closer walk with God.

These verses can help everyone, from new Christians to those of us who have been walking with the Lord for years and may be feeling a little off course, and everyone in between!

The Father Is Waiting With Open Arms

In the parable of the Prodigal Son, God’s love and mercy are reflected in the heart of the father for his wayward son (Luke 15:11-32).

After squandering his inheritance on extravagant and sinful living, the son decides to return home in hopes of getting a job feeding the pigs on his father’s farm. He knows he doesn’t even deserve that after all he’s done.

Yet his father greets him with open arms:

The father goes on to instruct his servants to prepare a feast to celebrate his son’s return home.

No matter where you are in your faith walk, friend, you can rest assured your Heavenly Father longs for you to turn away from whatever has caused you to get off track in your relationship with him. God wants you to embrace living in his love and light fully.

7 POWERFUL QUESTIONS AND VERSES TO HELP YOU GET BACK ON TRACK WITH GOD

Don’t wait a moment longer! Dive into these Bible verses about getting back on track with God and start drawing closer to Him this very moment. The Father is waiting for you with open arms!

1. WHO’S IN CHARGE OF MY LIFE?

Part of trusting Jesus to save us from our sins is acknowledging his rightful place as Lord in our life. Yet, sometimes, as we go on in our faith walk, we can lose sight of the fact that He’s the boss.

We may allow Jesus to rule in some areas of our lives but hold back in others.

Ask God to show you any areas where you might be trying to do things your way. When we confess this and give Him access to every area, he graciously provides the strength and help we need to walk in His ways. This is key to getting back on track with God.

2. AM I LIVING OBEDIENTLY?

One of the reasons this passage is so great is that it reminds us that choosing to live in disobedience brings nothing but trouble! Do you need that reminder as much as I do sometimes, friend?

It’s also a wonderful reminder that living in obedience helps us draw nearer to the heart of God.

3. DO I HAVE UNCONFESSED SIN?

James reminds us here to quit being double-minded, by trying to live God’s way and the world’s way, too. God wants our hearts to be totally devoted to Him and to set our minds on walking in His ways. God gives us the power to do this through His Holy Spirit.

No matter how far we’ve strayed from God, when we move in his direction with a heart that desires to obey, then He moves nearer to us.

4. AM I SPENDING TIME IN ‘THE WORD’?

Of all the Bible verses about getting back on track with God, this one may be the most important of all. Neglecting God’s Word is one of the first and most profound ways we move away from Him.

The Bible is God’s tool for shaping us into who He wants us to be. He tells us to long for His Word.

It’s so important in our faith walk that we take in as much Scripture as we can. We also need to ask the Holy Spirit to help us apply it to our lives so we can live it out.

Don’t settle for just a verse or two in a daily devotional! I love a good devotional. Yet it’s best to use devotionals to supplement our regular time reading God’s Word.

5. AM I PRIORITIZING FELLOWSHIP?

We aren’t meant to do the Christian walk alone. God designed us for fellowship with other believers.

Don’t give up on attending a church that teaches God’s Word and provides opportunities for mutual encouragement with other believers. It’s one key to getting back on track with God and staying there.

You can even find Christian encouragement by attending the same online church consistently if you can’t attend in person. Many churches have online ministries that include opportunities for fellowship.

Bible Study Fellowship also has many opportunities for online Bible studies when you can’t get together in person.

6. HOW’S MY PRAYER LIFE?

The Lord Jesus modeled a prayer life of consistent time spent alone talking to the Father. This verse also commands us to pray constantly as we go throughout the day.

Regular prayer is one of the biggest keys to getting back on track with God. Remember that prayer is simply talking to God. It doesn’t have to be complicated!

7. AM I WALKING IN STEP WITH THE SPIRIT?

This is one of my favorite bible verses about getting back on track with God because it’s a great reminder that we don’t have to do anything in our own strength.

The moment we trust in the Lord Jesus to save us from our sins, God gives us the Holy Spirit to live in us. It’s only through the power of the Spirit that we can live a life that’s truly pleasing to God. One step at a time!

When we sense that we’re off track spiritually, it may be because we’re ignoring the Spirit’s work in our lives instead of submitting to Him.

We walk in the Spirit by allowing Him to control our thoughts, words, and actions instead of doing things according to our old sinful nature.

Are you keeping in step with the Spirit?

A PRAYER FOR GETTING BACK ON TRACK WITH GOD

Heavenly Father, We come before you today believing that something is off in our lives. For some of us, the signs are obvious. We have clearly turned away from you and your ways and need to do a complete about-face.

For others, we sense that we’re off track spiritually, but the signs are subtler. Maybe nobody else has even noticed, but we know that something isn’t right. We simply don’t have that same sense of living near to you.

Oh Father, would you help us? We desire to submit to you in all things, but our flesh is weak. We long to draw very near to you. Yet we know we need your help.

Please reveal to us any areas that we need to change with your help. Show us any sins we need to confess and strengthen us to completely turn from them and toward your light and unfailing love.

In Jesus name,
Amen.
