15 Challenging Truths That Put Our Faith to the Test

You’ve been faithful all your life – praying diligently, attending church regularly, and sharing God’s word at every opportunity. You’ve done everything right, yet one day, a huge challenge hits, leaving you questioning, “Why me? Of all people, why am I facing this?”

As Christians, we stand by our faith in God. We believe in His goodness and grace. Yet, there are moments when we are left questioning why He doesn’t step in to solve our problems. These moments of uncertainty lead us to tackle difficult questions and uncomfortable truths. In this article, we will explore 15 hard truths that challenge our faith to gain better insights into how we can find our way through these trying times when God doesn’t solve them all.

Suffering is a Part of Life

Even Jesus faced suffering during His time on earth. This suffering isn’t evidence of God’s indifference. Instead, it highlights how God uses our struggles to fulfill His larger plans. Our faith is tested, refined, and ultimately made stronger through these difficulties.

Not Everyone Will Be Saved

You might wonder, “But didn’t Christ die on the cross for our salvation?” The fact that not everyone will be saved is a challenging truth that can be difficult to accept. Although Christ’s death on the cross offers the gift of eternal life to everyone, the Bible tells us that not all will choose to accept it. His sacrifice is sufficient for everyone, but it only applies to those who are willing to receive it.

God’s Timing is Not Our Timing

We often want quick solutions and immediate answers, but God’s plan doesn’t work that way. He works on an eternal timeline that can be beyond our understanding. His delays are not denials but are part of His flawless plan for us. Even when we’re anxious for answers or solutions, it’s important to remain patient, keep our faith, and trust in His timing.

Faith Doesn’t Guarantee a Problem-Free Life

The story of Job in the Bible provides a clear example of this truth. Job is portrayed as a blameless and upright man; he fears God and avoids wrongdoing (Job 1:1). Despite his devotion, he faces severe suffering and loss. His story highlights that even those who are faithful aren’t immune to life’s difficulties. But those who believe can find strength through the hardships.

We Don’t Have All the Answers

As Christians, we are sometimes pressured to have all the answers, especially regarding questions about faith, God, and the meaning of life. However, the reality is that we simply don’t have all the answers. Some aspects of God’s plan are beyond human understanding. It may be difficult to accept this truth, but acknowledging it allows us to trust in God’s greater wisdom.

Christians Are Called to Forgive

It’s hard to forgive, especially those who have deeply wronged us. However, God wants us to forgive just as He has forgiven us. It’s a bitter pill to swallow, but only through forgiveness can we truly experience healing and peace.

The Church is Imperfect

As Christians, our strong attachment to the Church sometimes makes it hard to accept its imperfection. However, we must also remember that the Church is composed of flawed human beings just like us. They can make mistakes, cause hurt, or even fail to live up to Christ’s teachings. The Church’s imperfection reminds us that our faith should be rooted in Christ, not the people who make up the Church.

Faith Doesn’t Eliminate Doubt

Humans as we are, we are bound to experience moments of doubt, no matter how faithful we claim to be. This can be confusing, as we often assume that strong faith should eliminate uncertainty. However, the presence of doubt doesn’t diminish our faith. Instead, it is a call for us to explore our beliefs even more deeply and seek a greater understanding of God’s will.

Material Wealth is Not a Sign of God’s Favor

It’s tempting to think that financial success means we have God’s approval, but the Bible tells us that God’s favor isn’t about material riches. Accepting this can be challenging, especially in a society that often connects prosperity with righteousness. Recognizing that genuine favor comes from our relationship with God rather than our wealth helps us adjust our focus and priorities.

Temptations Will Always Be Around

No matter how strong our spiritual commitment is, we will continually face temptations throughout our lives. This constant battle can challenge our resolve and faith. We must stay vigilant and turn to God for the strength to resist these temptations.

Following Christ often requires us to oppose societal values and expectations. For many of us, this could feel uncomfortable and isolating. This reality tests our dedication to living out our beliefs authentically, even when it sets us apart from the majority.

God Allows Free Will

The fact that God grants us the freedom to make our own choices, even if those choices lead to harm, can be difficult to understand. The belief in a loving, all-powerful God and the existence of evil and suffering are two concepts that don’t sit well together. This paradox challenges our faith as we try to understand God’s greater purpose.

Unanswered Prayers

It can be difficult to understand why our heartfelt prayers go unanswered. With our faith, we sometimes expect that God should respond to our needs and desires. This reality can shake our trust, but it also calls us to deepen our trust in God’s wisdom and timing, even when the answers are not as we hoped.

God Disciplines His Children

As a loving Heavenly Father, it is only right to discipline us, His children. However, accepting this truth can be challenging. When God disciplines us, He trains us to grow in faith, character, and obedience. It is His way of helping us align more with His will and be better prepared for the path ahead.

We Are Called to Love Our Enemies

We have often heard of this commandment, yet the question remains: How? Loving our enemies goes against our natural human instincts, and accepting this truth can be difficult.
