16 Spiritual Goals Every Young Christian Should Chase

So much is expected of us, especially young Christians. We may get pulled into different directions – school, work, relationships, and trying to live up to societal standards. It can get very overwhelming, and without a strong foundation in faith, it’s easy to feel lost. Setting spiritual goals can be such a game-changer. It sets a clear path to follow so that even when life gets busy, they remain focused on what truly matters.

This article is dedicated to young Christians around the world. Here are 16 spiritual goals that can strengthen your faith and help you live a purposeful life.

Prioritize Relationship with God

Put your relationship with God at the top of your list – this should be your first spiritual goal. Keeping in touch with Him with all the noises in the world might be tough, but it helps you focus on what’s important. It’s like any other relationship – you need to put in time, pay attention, and work at it to see it grow. The more you put into your connection with God, the more you’ll find peace and guidance in your day-to-day life.

Serve Others

When you aim to serve others, you start to view the world in a new light. Jesus taught us that helping others is a key part of following Him. By making this a part of your spiritual goals, you show His love in all your actions.

Helping doesn’t need to be complex. You can begin with little, day-to-day acts of kindness. As time goes on, you’ll see the big changes or the effect that your small acts are having.

Set Healthy Boundaries

At times, you may feel pressured to agree with everyone and everything. As a young Christian, you might believe you must be pleasant and neglect your own needs. However, this approach can leave you exhausted after a while. You should begin to establish healthy boundaries. Despite what some might think, this isn’t about pushing people away. Creating healthy boundaries helps protect your time, energy, and well-being so you can keep your focus on your relationship with God.

Setting limits helps you make room to rest and think, which plays a big role in growing your faith. Get better at saying no and sticking to it. Give yourself time to recharge and build a stronger bond with God. Keep in mind that even Jesus stepped away from the crowds to rest and pray. When you follow what He did and put healthy boundaries in place, you’re in a better position to help others and live out your God-given purpose without losing yourself along the way.

Spend More Time Outdoors

It’s a beautiful world out there! Take a walk in the park; maybe climb some mountains, or relax in your backyard. Take time to be outdoors and enjoy nature’s beauty. It has a unique way of bringing peace, making it easier to reflect and pray.

At times, just stepping out and taking a breath of fresh air can help you reset, refocus, and gain a fresh outlook on what’s happening in your life. It helps you unplug from all the noise and get closer to God. You might discover that during these peaceful moments outdoors, God speaks to your heart in ways you might have missed otherwise.

Write a Gratitude Journal

Write down everything you’re grateful for and make it a habit. This easy approach helps you focus on the good things in your life, big or small. As time passes, you’ll see how much your perspective shifts, and you’ll begin to feel more satisfied and happy. Plus, looking back on your past entries can be a powerful way to see how far you’ve come and how much God has worked in your life. It’s a small habit that can make a big difference in your spiritual journey.

Read At Least One Chapter of the Bible Per Day

Achieving this spiritual goal requires commitment. It might seem like a small commitment, though. But those few minutes of daily reading can have a huge impact on your spiritual life. If you become more familiar with God’s Word, it’s easier to hear His voice and discern His message in your everyday life.

Memorize Bible Verses

In addition to reading a chapter of the Bible daily, learning verses by heart can have an even bigger impact on you. Begin with a handful of verses that resonate with you. As you practice memorizing them, you’ll notice it gets easier over time. This hands-on method helps to strengthen your relationship with God and keeps His message fresh in your mind. It has an influence on your thoughts and behavior steering you in every part of your life.

Try Fasting

When talking about fasting, many people immediately think of giving up food. However, fasting is much more than that. It involves letting go of comfort and dedicating time to deepen your relationship with God, free from distractions. This spiritual practice helps you learn to depend on Him for strength, particularly when you step away from your usual comforts. Whether you’re fasting from food, social media, or something else entirely, the main goal is to remove distractions and create space for God to move in your heart and life.

Deepen Your Prayer Life

You might be used to just telling God your thoughts, but it’s just as crucial to take time to hear what He says. You may think you already pray in a meaningful way, but do you dig deep into those conversations? As you cultivate a richer prayer life, you’ll find that it shifts from simply asking for guidance to enjoying being in God’s presence. This change brings a feeling of calm and closeness that makes your spiritual path richer.

Share Faith with Others

Talking to others about your faith is a great spiritual goal that brings joy and fulfillment. At first, it might seem a bit scary, but don’t worry – you don’t need to know everything or be a Bible expert to discuss your connection with God. Just be yourself! Talk about the times when God has helped you out, and let your enthusiasm do the talking. People often connect with honesty, so when you’re open and real about your beliefs, it can lead to some deep and meaningful conversations. You never know who you might be inspiring to start their own relationship with God.

Focus on Personal Growth

Young Christians often spend most of their time helping others and trying to meet what their family, friends, and society expect from them. This time, try to focus on yourself. While these things matter, it’s just as important to work on your own growth. You can’t give what you don’t have, so take some time to invest in yourself mentally, emotionally, and spiritually. When you do this, you’re not just making your own life better, but you’re also getting ready to make a bigger difference in the lives of people around you.

Let Go of Vices

We all have habits or behaviors that can prevent us from experiencing the fullness of life God has planned for us. These might include unhealthy food, relationships, or usual distractions like excessive screen time. The first step is to identify those vices. Letting go of them follows next. Only then can new paths for spiritual growth open up.

Go On a Mission Trip

If you want to push yourself and grow in your faith, going on a mission trip is the way to go. It gives you a chance to help others and show God’s love in a practical way. You’ll see the world from a new angle. You’ll witness how God works in different communities and cultures.

Mission trips teach you how to be selfless and humble. You might go thinking you’ll be the one giving, but you often get back much more than you thought. This goal can change your faith in ways you never saw coming. It shows you how God’s work goes way beyond your daily life and that you’re part of something much bigger than yourself.

Practice Tolerance

Tolerance is an important spiritual goal for young Christians in a world that is divided by different beliefs and principles. It doesn’t mean you need to accept everyone’s views or actions. Instead, it’s about showing respect for other perspectives and being kind even when you don’t see eye to eye. We can get stuck in our own viewpoints, but when you practice tolerance, you give yourself a chance to learn from others and see things from different angles.

Create a Vision Board for Your Faith Journey

One fun and inspiring way to visualize your spiritual goals is by creating a vision board. Use this board to remind yourself about what you’re aiming for in your walk with faith. The great thing about a vision board is that it’s a flexible tool you can tweak as your faith grows. You might notice your goals change or develop, and that’s fine. Embrace this journey by adding new elements or taking out things that don’t speak to you anymore. Pray, and let God guide your vision and align it with His plan for your life.

Reflect on Your Spiritual Journey Regularly

Sure, you have listed down your spiritual goals, but what happens next? It’s not enough to just write them down. Real growth comes when you set aside time to think about your journey on a regular basis. It’s like doing a self-check every so often where you take a moment to ponder, assess how far you’ve come, and spot areas where you might need to change your approach. It’s a chance to take a breather in the middle of life’s chaos and ask yourself some crucial questions like: How has my relationship with God been growing? What have my experiences taught me?

Your Spiritual Goals May Change

These goals don’t define your entire spiritual journey. It’s okay for them to change as time passes. What you find important now might shift as you develop and face new situations. This doesn’t mean you’re going toward the wrong direction. Rather, it just shows you’re responding to how God is shaping your life.

So, be open to reassessing your goals and adjusting them as needed. What counts is that you keep seeking God and let Him guide you along this path.
