Curses, spells, voodoo, and witchcraft have long instilled fear in people, casting shadows of uncertainty and spiritual oppression. To many, the thought of being cursed feels like an axe hanging over the head that could harm or disrupt their lives at any moment. But as Christians, we don’t walk in fear; we walk in the truth of God’s Word.
The Bible has given us clear and unshakeable promises—that we are under God’s protection, blessings, and empowerment. We must be aware of this reality, for where knowledge is absent, fear can take residence. It is equally important to realize that as believers, we do not fall prey to the enemy’s trickery and that we have spiritual protection that nullifies every curse.
Let’s examine 16 biblical truths that will clarify your thoughts, build your faith, and remind you why curses do not possess those who are in Christ.
Satan Is a Defeated Foe
When Jesus rose from the dead, He broke the power of sin and death and every one of Satan’s schemes. The authority of Satan is limited, and as believers, we are under Christ’s authority.
1 John 4:4, “He who is in you is greater than he who is in the world.”
This simply means that no matter how powerful any form of spell or channeling curse may seem, the God in you is infinitely greater. Satan can operate in your life only where there is fear and doubt, so standing firm in Christ ensures Satanic defeat.
A Curse Without Cause Is Ineffective
The Bible plainly explains that curses cannot occur without a cause. Proverbs 26:2 says: “Like a fluttering sparrow or a darting swallow, an undeserved curse does not come to rest.”
This is a powerful reassurance that no one can curse you randomly. God’s justice prevails, and no curse can take root unless it aligns with His sovereign will. To Christians washed in Jesus’s blood, no curse can have a legitimate claim over them.
God’s Blessing Outweighs Any Curse
No force in this life or in the spiritual realm can undo what God has blessed. Numbers 22–24 relays an account of Balaam, who was hired to curse Israel but could only bless them because God had decreed such.
We are under God’s divine blessing, having been born His children, and it overrides any curse. When you align yourself with God’s Word and walk in obedience, His favor becomes an unshakeable shield around you.
Christians Are a New Creation
When you accept Christ, you are no longer identified with the things of your past life, failures, or any doctrinal oppression. You are transformed anew.
2 Corinthians 5:17 says, “If anyone is in Christ, the new creation has come: The old has gone, the new is here!” This new identity cuts through every chain from the past and places you under the protection of God’s promises.
The Holy Spirit Provides Divine Protection
The very same Spirit that raised Jesus from the dead dwells in you and has given you life to shelter you as no other protection could. Romans 8:11 confirms this: “And if the Spirit of Him who raised Jesus from the dead is living in you, He who raised Christ from the dead will also give life to your mortal bodies because of His Spirit who lives in you.” This assures believers that no weapon formed against them can prosper.
As you walk with the Spirit, curses and spiritual attacks are rendered powerless, and the Spirit equips you with discernment and boldness, enabling you to resist every attack of the enemy.
Spells and Witchcraft Are Powerless Against Christians
“Let no one be found among you who sacrifices their son or daughter in the fire, who practices divination or sorcery, interprets omens, engages in witchcraft, or casts spells, or who is a medium or spiritist or who consults the dead.” – Deuteronomy 18:10–11
Practices such as witchcraft and voodoo are an abomination to God, and they cannot override His power.
Any incantation or hex can never affect believers because God always protects them; these only receive any power where an individual has been separated from God. In Christianity, every attempt of darkness is annulled by the power of the cross.
Fear Has No Place in a Believer’s Life
The enemy uses fear as one of his major tools. But in Psalm 27:1, we are reminded, “The Lord is my light and my salvation—whom shall I fear?”
There is no fear of curses in the life of a Christian who fully trusts in the sovereignty of God. As you center your attention on His promises and not on the enemy’s threats, you will indeed live a victorious and peaceful life.
Jesus Set Us Free from Bondage
John 8:36 says it all: “So if the Son sets you free, you will be free indeed.” It is not an abstract freedom; it is all-inclusive.
You are delivered through Christ from every chain, every curse, or anything that represents spiritual oppression. You are no longer a captive but a child of God, walking in His freedom.
The Shield of Faith Extinguishes All Evil
Ephesians 6:16 calls faith a shield that quenches “all the flaming arrows of the evil one.”
These arrows include fear, doubt, and curses. When you stand firm in your faith, the enemy’s attempts will turn void. Faith is both your defense and offense in spiritual battles.
God Alone Has Authority Over Curses
“But God said to Balaam, “Do not go with them. You must not put a curse on those people, because they are blessed.” – Numbers 22:12
This verse shows that only God can bless or curse. And we know from Romans 8:28 that His plans for us are good.
When you’re under God’s covering, a curse cannot land upon you without God’s permission – and He has promised He will work all things together for your good.
Curses Are Rendered Powerless by the Cross
Galatians 3:13 says, “Christ redeemed us from the curse of the law by becoming a curse for us, for it is written: “Cursed is everyone who is hung on a pole.” Jesus took the curse of sin upon Himself on the cross, breaking its power forever.
He annulled every curse by His sacrifice, and His righteousness covers believers. This fact gives us faith in the truth that nothing will ever separate us from His protection.
Words Alone Have Absolutely No Spiritual Power Over You
“Bless those who curse you, pray for those who mistreat you.” – Luke 6:28
While verbal curses can sting emotionally, they have no spiritual authority over a believer. Luke 6:28 invites us to bless our cursing neighbors, showing that love and forgiveness disarm the enemy’s schemes.
God’s Victory Is Eternal
Colossians 1:13 says, “For He has rescued us from the dominion of darkness and brought us into the kingdom of the Son He loves.”
Curses cannot occupy this kingdom since His glory and truth surround us.
The Enemy Cannot Undo God’s Work
Romans 8:31 boldly declared: “If God is for us, who can be against us?”
No curse or spell could ever be uttered with the effect of nullifying that which God has set in motion in your life. His purposes for you are unshakeable and eternal.
Witchcraft Will Ultimately Be Destroyed
“I will destroy your witchcraft and you will no longer cast spells.” – Micah 5:12
This verse confirms that God will eventually destroy all witchcraft and evil. The battle is already won; we live by the promise of every darkness being wiped away forever.
Believers Are Overcomers in Christ
“For everyone born of God overcomes the world. This is the victory that has overcome the world, even our faith.” – 1 John 5:4
The verse above reminds us that our faith in Christ overcomes the world. This extends to all spiritual forces and curses; hence, we can confidently walk freely.
Walk in Freedom and Faith
